- Worker's Compensation
- All employers must provide you with
worker's compensation insurance. This covers you if you'r injured on the job.
Never try to process your own worker's compensation claim. Remember, your
employer has risk management, third party administrators and others to protect
its interest. Who is protecting yours?
- Sexual Harassment
- Sexual harassment is prohibited by Title
VII and Nevada statutes. There are 2 types of sexual harassment recognized by
the courts. One is quid pro quo meaning someone requires you to engage
in certain conduct in exchange for something (e.g. sexual favors for a
promotion). The other type, hostile work environment exists where there
is severe and pervasive conduct which makes your working conditions
intolerable. No one should be abused at work.
- Discrimination
- Federal law prohibits discrimination on the
basis of age, sex, race, religion, disability and national origin. Nevada law
also prohibits discrimination on this basis except age. People who
discriminate and companies who allow it should be stopped.
- Unpaid Wages
- Nevada and Federal law entitle you to payment
for all time worked. Is your employer illegally rounding timeclocks for its
benefit? The law also says you get paid for overtime in certain
positions.
- Retaliation
- Discrimination/harassment claims often carry a
retaliation element. A number of laws prohibit retaliation including Title
VII, Section 1981, FMLA and FLSA.
